Supreme x Zoo York: A Throwback to the ’90s NYC Skate Scene

0

Supreme is NYC’s most globally recognized skate brand, but it wasn’t the first. Zoo York hit the scene in 1993, emerging as the first major East Coast skateboard company, during a time when Southern California was the focus of skateboarding as an industry and culture. While West Coast skate culture is closely tied to SoCal’s punk rock scene, the East had more overlap with New York City’s own homegrown subcultures: graffiti and hip-hop. Zoo York captured this intersection with their hugely influential 1997 skate video The Zoo York Mixtape.

Zoo York and Supreme’s histories have been closely intertwined, each playing a major role in shaping skate culture in NYC and across the globe. For Spring 2025, Supreme pays homage to Zoo York with a collection dedicated to the brand’s early days. Graphics from the Zoo York archive are reimagined on tees and hoodies, including the NYC subway-inspired “Transit” graphic and “Dynasty,” featuring a skyscraper illustration by Art Deco era architect Hugh Ferriss.

The collection also includes soccer jerseys and shorts, inspired by the uniform that the Zoo York riding team wore during a bowling tournament in 1997.

Rounding out the wearables are baggy jeans, camp caps, and beanies, all adorned with graffiti-inspired embroidery. Last but not least, the collection is capped off with a “Transit” skate deck and a set of “Cuban Links” Spitfire Classic Wheels.

The Supreme x Zoo York collection drops June 19th on the Supreme website and at Supreme locations. Check out the lookbook and preview below.
