Sabrina Ionescu and Nike gave us a hit last year with the Sabrina 1. The 2x-WNBA All Star is now following up her debut with her second signature shoe, the Sabrina 2.
No sophomore slump here, the Sabrina 2 improves on the design of the Sabrina 1 with technical upgrades, while keeping the sleek aesthetic that made the Sabrina 1 so popular.
The updated design is more lightweight, 28 grams lighter to be precise. Underfoot cushioning is provided by Cushlon 3.0, a plush foam that is featured on a few different Nike running and Jordan models, now making its first appearance on a Nike basketball shoe. A Zoom Air unit in the forefoot helps provide energy return and responsiveness, while the “S”-inspired herringbone pattern on the outsole provides multidirectional traction for quick cuts.
Additional “S”-inspired design cues can be found throughout the shoe, such as the S-shaped frames on the side panels and the S-shaped embroidery around the heel. Another aesthetic design choice is the vertically slanted Swoosh on the medial that strikes through the stitchwork, resembling shattered glass from the ceilings Sabrina continues to break.
The Sabrina 2 will launch in a purple “Court Vision” colorway, inspired by Sabrina’s ability to see the court and read the defense to stay a step ahead of the game. This colorway and other future colorways feature mirror-finished Swooshes, an affirmation to the next generation of hoopers to literally “see themselves in the shoe.” Unlike the Sabrina 1, the Sabrina 2 will be available in kids’ sizing.
Ionescu debuted the Sabrina 2 “Court Vision” on-court at the New York Liberty home opener on May 18th against the Indiana Fever.
The Nike Sabrina 2 “Court Vision” launches June 25th on Nike.com and at select retailers alongside apparel collections for both adults and kids. Check out the official images below.
