Nike’s annual “Familia” collection is a celebration of Latino culture, designed to create visibility and storytelling platforms for the Hispanic community. Following last year’s AF-1 and Air Trainer pack, the sportswear giant is back with another pack consisting of an Air Max 1 and an Air Zoom Pegasus 40. These are releasing just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated every year from September 15th to October 15th.
According to Nike, this year’s Familia release “celebrates young Latinas everywhere who unapologetically move to the beat of their own drums.” Both pairs in the 2023 Familia pack feature bright colors, unique textures, and traditional embroidery, all coming together on a design that is reminiscent of traditional attire worn by women during cultural festivals across Latin America. Bold pops of yellow, green, pink, and orange are paired with a neutral sandy base, while the mix of materials represent the diaspora that is Latin American culture. Special “Familia” branding is found on the tongue tags, graphic insoles, and packaging.
