New Balance Kicks Off Its MADE 990 Version Series

Though shoe trends come and go, the beauty lies in being able to honor past silhouettes and bask in their timelessness. New Balance is doing that and more by reviving retired versions of the 990 in its MADE 990 Version Series.

As we approach its 40th anniversary, the 990 will be celebrated with a limited release of the 990v1 this month. Releases of the 990v2, v3 and v4 will be scattered throughout the latter half of the year. The original 990v1 holds seniority for its running capabilities. Each version thereafter combines performance with style, raising the standard of quality designed footwear.

Each silhouette features a ruby red tag and matching branding on the tongue to commemorate the 40th “ruby” anniversary. Because the New Balance factory calls Lawrence, Massachusetts home, the iconic clock tower takes on the sole, insert and duster bag. Even 40 years after its debut in 1982, the 990 series proves to be as long-lasting as ever.

The MADE 990 Version Series will launch with the 990v1 on June 17th on the New Balance website and select retailers, with the 990v2, 990v3, and 990v4 following in the summer and fall months. Re-releases of authentic core black, grey, and navy colorways of the 990v2 and 990v3 are also on the horizon, as well as the debut of the 990v6 in 2022. Take a closer look at the first drop in the MADE 990 Version Series below.
