NEEDLES has been dropping some sick footwear collabs in 2023. Part of designer Keizo Shimizu’s Nepenthes conglomerate, the brand recently dropped their own Reebok Beatniks, SUICOKE mules, and collection with DC Shoes. They are now teaming up with fellow Japanese brand ASICS on two colorways of the EX89.
The EX89 was introduced late last year as a modern version of the GEL-EXTREME basketball shoe from 1989. Like with the previously mentioned works, NEEDLES once again applies its signature purple color and butterfly motifs to the designs. The old school basketball shoe is offered in white or black leather with purple accents, the NEEDLES papillon embroidered on the back of each heel. As a final touch, the tongue tags are mismatched with NEEDLES branding on the left shoe and ASICS branding on the right.
The NEEDLES x ASICS EX89 launches on September 30th via needles.jp (11am JST) and at ASICS stores in Japan. A global release will follow on October 7th via the ASICS website (11am ET) and select retailers worldwide. Check out the official images and lookbook photos below.
