Original Story (11/5/24): Following a successful reintroduction earlier this year, the Nike Air Max SNDR is now getting a remix courtesy of Kids of Immigrants.
Founded in 2016 by two first-generation Americans — Daniel Buezo and Weleh Dennis — Kids of Immigrants is an LA-based brand and collective dedicated to bridging diverse through captivating storytelling and community empowerment.
KOI and the Swoosh have teamed up on two iterations of the Air Max SNDR, one in “Sundial” orange and the other in “Persian Violet,” each featuring vertical and horizontal TPU overlays reminiscent of the longitude and latitude lines typically found on a globe. This design motif, inspired by global connectivity and communication, pays homage to the globe graphics found on international prepaid phone cards that immigrants and kids of immigrants typically use to call family and loved ones from their motherland.
Other special features on the KOI x Nike Air Max SNDR include ripstop nylon upper construction, translucent outsoles with large “KIDS OF IMMIGRANTS” test across both shoes, and K logos on the back of the heels. We also see a KOI “k-i” version of Nike’s Air badge on the tongue and insoles, as well as an inclusive “Just Do It Together” message on the insoles.
Last but not least, the shoe is packaged with a phone card that ties back to the shoe’s design inspiration. Individuals can text the phone number on this card, (323) 310-3062, to sign up for alerts on future Kids Of Immigrants releases. As an added bonus, the last four digits of this phone number appear on the tongues, replacing the standard “6453” (the digits to dial to spell out Nike).
Both colorways of the Kids of Immigrants x Nike Air Max SNDR are set to drop in the coming weeks on the Kids of Immigrants website, SNKRS, and at select retailers. Check out the official images below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
Update (11/26/24): Kids of Immigrants have announced release info for their Air Max SNDR collab. Both colorways will be available via EQL raffle, opening November 29th at 11am EST on the KOI website. A wider release of the “Sundial” colorway is slated for December 27th on SNKRS. Check out the campaign video below.
