Supreme x Louis Vuitton. Dior’s collaborations with KAWS, Shawn Stussy, Jordan Brand, and Travis Scott. Kim Jones’ track record of merging the world’s of street and luxury fashion is unmatched. His next project as Artistic Director for Dior Men’s is a collaboration with a brand that is renowned by streetwear enthusiasts as well as the high fashion world: Stone Island.
The Dior x Stone Island capsule serves as a tribute to both brands’ founders, Christian Dior and Massimo Osti, and their shared passion for perfection and excellence in processes and clothing.
The functional military codes of the cult Italian sportswear label blend with Dior’s couture and tailoring traditions on a series of garment-dyed silhouettes and accessories, from a utilitarian vest and shorts look to cotton-sateen sneakers in Dior Oblique stitching and circular bags with the iconic compass rose motif. Common ground is found through the use of noble materials, particularly the utilization of silk both as a military mainstay and as an haute couture staple.
The central theme of the collection, “alchemy of color,” is showcased in the way that the noble materials transform the outcome of the garment dyeing process. Signature colors and silhouettes from the Stone Island archive are utilized and transformed in intensity. For instance, an archive Stone Island field jacket in Raso Gommato from Autumn-Winter ’88-’89, originally realized in cotton and rubber is now transposed, utilizing cotton silk with embossed leather.
Dior x Stone Island will pre-launch at select boutiques and online on June 14th, while the global release is scheduled for July 4th. Grab a preview below.
