A BATHING APE has teamed up with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on collection inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpieces and life stories.
The collaboration draws inspiration from six of Van Gogh’s famous works, including Flowering Plum Tree in Bloom (after Hiroshige) and Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat (1887), The Yellow House (1888), Sunflowers (1889), and Orchard with Apricot Trees in Blossom and Wheatfield with Crows (1890). Each artwork is featured on an APE HEAD graphic tee, while the back of the tees feature a passage from a beautifully letter written by Vincent to his brother Theo, in which he writes, “We must still continue and try to do better.” These tees come in special cardboard tube packaging, mirroring how art prints are packaged and stored.
A couple of the artworks have also been reimagined in SHARK HOODIE form, featuring a split design with the art on the right side and a matching camo on the left. Rounding out the collection are COLLEGE logo tees and crewneck sweatshirts, long-sleeve tees featuring a paint stroke design, and BABY MILO tees.
This collab with the Van Gogh Museum is the Japanese streetwear brand’s latest project celebrating the diversity and creativity within the dynamic art landscape, which it has been doing since establishing BAPE GALLERY in 2002. Other recent projects include the opening of the HYPERREAL group exhibition in Chicago and its participation in the 2024 London Mural Festival.
