Original Story (03/09/25): Ahead of Balenciaga’s Winter 2025 Show later today in Paris, the French luxury fashion house has shared a first look at its debut collaboration with sportswear brand PUMA.
Created under the vision of Demna, Balenciaga’s creative director, the collaboration features a reimagined iteration of the PUMA Speedcat that merges high-fashion aesthetics with the silhouette’s motorsports heritage.
Originally introduced in 1988 with a fireproof version for Formula One drivers, the PUMA Speedcat has been adopted by the Gen Z fashion scene, with celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski and Dua Lipa leading the charge on the silhouette’s recent revival.
Balenciaga’s iteration, dubbed the Speedcat Ultrasoft, remixes the silhouette’s red suede colorway with an elongated toe and a worn-out effect, featuring heavy distressing on the white formstrip overlay on the side panel. Balenciaga branding has been added to the tongue and side panel in gold foil, and a gold foil size marking appears on the back of the heel.
The collaboration also features the Balenciaga x PUMA Marché Bag, a tote made to resemble a plastic shopping bag that is constructed from Dyneema—the world’s strong fiber.
The Balenciaga x PUMA collaboration is set to launch later this year as part of Balenciaga’s Winter 2025 collection at Balenciaga stores and on the brand’s website. Grab a first look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
