Original Story (01/15/24): When Awake NY opened their NYC flagship on Orchard St. back in June, guests who attended the grand opening could see a pair of sneakers hanging from an overhead pipe. Some attendees snapped pics of this shoe and shared them online. This was how the Awake NY Air Ship was first revealed to the world.
Hung from the ceiling of the Awake NY flagship was two separate colorways of the Awake Air Ship, one in red and the other in blue. Both pairs feature a white leather upper with an embroidered A logo on the lateral of the toe cap and a metallic platinum Swoosh. The pops or red/blue are found on the snakeskin ankle collars, as well as on the trim of the Swooshes. Additional Awake NY branding can be found on the left heel, replacing the usual “Nike Air,” and on the Wings logo on the ankle collar. Underfoot is a vintage-style yellowed midsole and a gum rubber outsole.
After months of anticipation, Awake NY is now gearing up to release its first Jordan collaboration to the public. The red colorway will hit the market first, accompanied by an apparel collection that was teased by Brand Director Hugo Mendoza during a recent SNKRS Live episode. The blue colorway is expected to drop in Fall 2024.
The Awake NY x Jordan Air Ship “University Red” and accompanying apparel are currently expected to drop on March 13st via SNKRS and select retailers, though expect Awake NY to have their own launch prior to the global release. Grab an early look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
Update (02/20/24): Grab a first look at the complete Awake NY x Jordan collection below. The apparel offering releasing alongside the Air Ships includes a varsity jacket, flannel, t-shirt, crewneck, basketball shorts, and cap.
Update (02/27/24): Awake NY and Jordan have released a campaign film titled “Where I’m From” ahead of the release of their first collaboration. The video serves as a love letter to Brooklyn and stars Carmelo Anthony, DJ Clark Kent, Rowdy Rebel, Tess Cecyl, Kitty Ca$h, Ace SL, and other members of the NYC community. The Awake NY release for the collection has also been set for March 9th in-store and online.
Update (02/28/24): Awake NY has now shared the official lookbook for its Jordan Brand collab. The new shots star more members of the NYC fashion community, such as Ev Bravado of Who Decides War and former Tiffany & Co. creative director Ruba Abu-Nimah. The shots reveal a previously unseen trench coat in black adorned with a graphic of Michael Jordan mid-air.
