Summertime and the living’s easy! This weekend Jordan Brand debuted their Summer ’19 line-up and the offerings are bountiful! Everything under the sun is droppin’ this summer from vibrant new takes on the Air Jordan 4 Retro to a trio of 3M dripped kicks (among others, we’ll touch on those later).
We’re extremely interested in the three piece of 3M Jays from Michael’s first Championship three-peat (1991-93) – the Air Jordan 6, 7 & 8.
The 3M collection has been formally titled as the Reflections Of A Champion which is fitting because the shoes literally reflect. There’s a deeper meaning behind the name (in our opinion) – 3M reflects light to create shine… just like MJ reflected the pressures of the NBA’s brightest stage to create three shining moments of success.
Michael defeated Magic Johnson, the greatest NBA Star of the 1980s, to win his first championship in 1991. These 3M 6s feature all of the Black Infrared‘s famous elements (including Nike Air branding) but with a silver upper instead of black unbuck.
2. Air Jordan 7; 1992; Victory Over Portland
Air Jordan7 Cardinal OG
Michael went back-to-back and demoralized the Portland Trailblazers along the way too. The Raptor 7s were on Mike’s feet throughout the series but Jordan Brand decided to throw the 3M scheme onto the Cardinal 7s instead. We haven’t seen a retro of the Cardinal 7s since 2011; and these might be the coldest of the trio, tell us what you think!
3. Air Jordan 8; 1993; Victory Over Chuck
Air Jordan 8 Bugs Bunny OG
Charles Barkley should have won a championship during his Hall Of Fame career – but Michael Jordan happened. The 1991 Finals were an epic showdown between two generational talents. Yet, like clockwork, Michael Jordan and the Bulls flexed their championship dominance to the tune of 3 rings in a row. The Air Jordan 8’s contribution to the Reflections Of A Champion borrows the Bugs Bunny colorway but with a modern twist.
