Allbirds and adidas have achieved a major milestone in their goal towards zero carbon waste. Following the launch of their limited FUTURECRAFT.FOOTPRINT collaboration last December, the two brands have now launched the ADIZERO X ALLBIRDS 2.94 KG CO2E, bringing low-carbon running shoes to the masses.
The ADIZERO X ALLBIRDS 2.94 KG CO2E achieves carbon emissions under 3 kg CO2e by distancing itself from conventional methods of production. The bio-based EVA midsole is made with 17% plant-based material. Additionally the sock liner is made up of 46% sugarcane content, while the tongue and heel foam contain 17%. The upper incorporates 77% recycled polyester and 23% natural lyocell, a fiber made from sustainably grown wood, along with lining, laces, and embroidery made with 100% recycled polyester. The outsole is made with 10% recycled rubber and the torsion bar was removed, saving material and resulting in higher flexibility.
“The launch of the ADIZERO X ALLBIRDS 2.94 KG CO2E proves that like-minded ambition can help deliver low-carbon running shoes at scale,” said Kimia Yaraghchian Product Manager at adidas. “This project has laid the foundation for the decarbonisation goal. All the learnings from this project have subsequently and immediately been incorporated into the creation of further running shoes in order to achieve our footprint reductions more quickly. The ADIZERO X ALLBIRDS 2.94 KG CO2E is offered in four colorways, including Core Black/ Bliss, Cloud White/ Carbon, Core Black/Acid Red and an Allbirds exclusive “Semi Turbo” colorway.
