Original Story (04/04/24): 2025 marks the 35th anniversary of the Air Jordan 5, and Jordan Brand will be celebrating the occasion by bringing back the classic OG “Black Metallic” colorway.

The “Black Metallic” was one of four original colorways of Michael Jordan’s fifth signature shoe that released in 1990. These originally dropping February of that year alongside the “Fire Red” colorway, followed by the “Grape” in the summer, followed by an alternate “Fire Red” with a black tongue and “23” on the lateral heel in November that same year.

We last got a retro of the “Black Metallic” Jordan 5 in 2016, making this upcoming retro nine years removed from its predecessor. This 2025 retro will kick off the Remastered V2 series of the Air Jordan 5, meaning that this Air Jordan 5 and future Jordan 5 releases after this one will come with new specs. The aim of this remastering is to get the shape of the shoe as close to the original 1990 shape as possible.

The Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic” is set to release in Spring 2025 on SNKRS and at select retailers. Stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for first looks and additional info.

Update (05/16/24): According to zSneakerHeadz and Sneaker Files, the Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic” releasing in 2025 will be part of the “Reimagined” series.

To differentiate this pair from the OGs, the Reimagined pair will come equipped with white laces, just like how MJ liked to wear them. The shoe will also feature reflective 3M piping on the upper as a nod to the OG’s game-changing reflective tongue.

Update (08/30/24): First images of the 2025 pair have arrived, revealing that the Nike Air branding on the heels is also reflective. These are slated to drop on February 8th.
