Originally aired from 1979-1980, the OG Mobile Suit Gundam anime spawned a massive franchise that revolutionized the mecha genre and inspired generations of fans. To celebrate its 45th anniversary, UNIQLO UT has teamed up with the legendary series for a commemorative T-shirt collection that pays homage to the saga’s past, present, and future.
This limited collection includes four t-shirt designs, each starring a graphic based on a different Gundam series. Two of the tees feature exclusive illustrations by Kunio Okawara, one of the original creators and principal mechanical designer of Gundam. One of Okawara’s newly illustrated graphics features a lineup of legendary mobile suits—RX-78-2 GUNDAM, Z GUNDAM, GOD GUNDAM, WING GUNDAM ZERO, ∀ GUNDAM, FREEDOM GUNDAM, UNICORN GUNDAM, and JUSTICE GUNDAM—while the other honors just the OG anime, depicting RX-78-2, GUNCANNON, and GUNTANK against the backdrop of ZAKU II.
Also included in the lineup is a tee based on the Gundam SEED series, featuring FREEDOM GUNDAM, STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM, and STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM TYPE II. Rounding out the collection, the final tee features a graphic from Season 2 of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, which depicts main characters Suletta Mercury and Miorine Rembran with GUNDAM AERIAL REBUILD in the background.
