Blokecore is one of the hottest trends in streetwear right now. Drawing inspiration from the ’90s UK football terrace scene, the style is characterized by a sporty soccer-inspired aesthetic, where vintage jerseys are paired with basic jeans and terrace sneakers such as adidas Sambas.
The rise of blokecore has been great for Umbro, the 100-year-old brand based out of Manchester that specializes in football and rugby sportswear. In 2024, Umbro partnered with Milan-based retailer Slam Jam, together designing an elevated, fashion-forward collection that combines Umbro’s football heritage with Slam Jam’s ultra-contemporary take on subculture.
The Slam Jam x Umbro partnership is back for Spring/Summer 2025 with a collection that takes blokecore to a whole ‘nother level. The star of the show is the chainmail top, a mix between football gear and medieval armor inspired by British heraldry. Other pieces such as the all-black windbreaker jacket draw inspiration from stadium security uniforms, blending elements of formal wear and sportswear. The two also offer a reimagined version of Umbro’s England 1997-99 home jerseys with “LAZY” written across the chest for some added rebellious flare.
The accompanying campaign by Japanese photographer Satoshi Fujiwara was shot inside a football club bus, capturing the chaotic atmosphere that comes with traveling for away games.
The first drop from Slam Jam x Umbro Spring/Summer 2025 will be available March 4th on the Slam Jam website and on March 7th at select retailers. The second half of the collection will be available March 18th on Slam Jam and March 22nd at retailers. Check out the campaign images and preview below.
