Nike is releasing a new colorway of the Dunk Low inspired by tattoos, more specifically, the American traditional style of tattooing.
This old-school style of tattoo was popularized in the US after World War II, when sailors returning home wanted to get tattoos to show pride in their country. Tattoo artists that pioneered this style include Bert Grimm, Don Ed Hardy, and Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins.
The eagle is a common motif for this style of tattoo, depicted on the insoles of this upcoming “Tattoo” Dunk Low. More tattoo-style artwork is found on the back of the tongues: a swallow with a “Just Do It” banner on the left shoe and a spider on the right shoe.
Other special design elements on this Dunk Low include a perforated spider-web pattern on the toe box and hits of gold and teal on the heel, representing the bold colors that are characteristic of the American traditional tattoo style.
The Nike Dunk Low LTD “Tattoo” is expected to drop this August via Nike and select retailers. Check out the official images below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
