Nike Brings Back the OG Air Zoom Spiridon

Nike has been teasing the return of the Air Zoom Spiridon for over a year now, and the wait is finally over. The original “Sport Red” colorway of the cult classic model shoe has officially arrived for another retro release.

The Air Zoom Spiridon was first introduced as a running shoe in 1997 and played a pivotal role in the evolution of Nike’s pressure-mapped designs to improve cushioning for runners. It made its debut alongside an “It’s Okay to Be Fast” campaign, featuring memorable commercials starring Michael Johnson and Gail Devers, American athletes who each won gold medals at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

This latest retro run of the Zoom Spiridon has been spearheaded by Travis Scott and his new Field Jaxx signature model. Originally called the Shark-A-Don, the shoe was first revealed back in August 2023, designed as a hybrid of the Air Zoom Spiridon and Nike’s Land Shark cleat. Now that a couple colorways of the Field Jaxx have dropped, it’s time for the OG to have it’s time to shine.

Nike has only retro’d the OG “Sport Red” Air Zoom Spiridon colorway twice since its original 1997 release, once in 2005 and most recently in 2016 as quickstrike NikeLab release. The cult classic is now back in 2024 in true-to-OG form, complete with grey mesh uppers, black mudguards, metallic red Swooshes, reflective details, and white, wavy midsoles with a subtle glossy finish.

A few other exciting Air Zoom Spiridon releases are on the horizon. Fragment Design and UNDEFEATED will each be dropping collabs on the model in the near future, while more colorways of Travis Scott’s Field Jaxx are also incoming.

The Nike Air Zoom Spiridon OG “Sport Red” returns December 20th on SNKRS and at select retailers. Check out the official images below.
