One of the most popular and iconic fashion collaborations from the early aughts is making a return in 2025.
Over twenty years ago, then Louis Vuitton creative director Marc Jacobs tapped Japanese artist Takashi Murakami to design a line of collaborative “Monogram Multicolore” pieces. These designs were unveiled at LV’s Spring 2003 show and were an instant hit, leading to multiple successive collections: “Cherry Blossom” (2003), “Panda” (2004), “Cerise Cherries” (2005), MOCA Hands (2007 for MOCA Los Angeles exhibition), Monogramouflage (2008), and Cosmic Blossom (2010).
These kawaii Y2K-era designs are now being revived in the 2025 LV x Murakami “Re-Edition” collection, releasing in honor of the collab’s 20th anniversary (though it’s been 22 years since the original launch). The “Re-Edition” collection is comprised of over 200 pieces, featuring bags, cardholders, belts, silk scarves, skateboards, sneakers, and so much more. The range pays homage to the original collaboration by bringing back beloved motifs like the Monogram Multicolore, Cherry Blossom, and Superflat Panda.
The women’s “Re-Edition” collection is presented alongside a kaleidoscopic campaign starring Zendaya, as well as with remastered versions of two original Murakami x LV short films: “Superflat Monogram” from 2003 and “Superflat First Love” from 2009. The rollout will also feature a series of pop-ups in cities around the globe, including New York, Milan, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Shanghai, and London.
The Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami Re-Edition Collection will be released in two drops. ‘Chapter One’ will focus on the “Monogram Multicolor” designs and will be available globally on January 3rd, 2025. ‘Chapter Two’ will release in March and will be centered around Murakami’s cherry blossom pattern. Both drops will be available at Louis Vuitton stores and the Louis Vuitton website. Check out the campaign imagery and preview below.
