Pharrell’s Louis Vuitton ButterSoft Sneaker On-Feet

1

Original Story (01/17/25): Pharrell Williams is kicking off Paris Fashion Week a bit early with the reveal of his new Louis Vuitton sneaker.

Dubbed the LV ButterSoft, the new sneaker has many people comparing it to a Nike Cortez, though the actual inspiration is most likely the ICECREAM Board Flip. The Board Flip was a sneaker launched in 2006 by Reebok, designed by Pharrell and NIGO for ICECREAM, the skate division of Billionaire Boys Club. However, there were some complications with this launch. In 2005, ICECREAM and Reebok has a dispute over quality and distribution issues, and the two parties agreed to part ways after some legal battles. Since Reebok still had the license to produce ICECREAM footwear, they launched the Board Flip in 2006 and its sequel, the Board Flip II, in 2007.

As Men’s Creative Director of Louis Vuitton, Pharrell is now bringing back that mid-2000s skate energy back with the LV Buttersoft. While the toe paneling more closely resembles that of the Nike Cortez, the shoe’s chunky shape, the groove on the midsole, and the variety of bright colorways definitely gives off ICECREAM vibes.

Also, it’s possible NIGO had some involvement in the creation of this new LV shoe. Rumors have been circulating of an upcoming NIGO x Pharrell LV collection, and the profile picture of Pharrell’s @skateboard Instagram page (where this shoe was previewed) is of Pharrell and NIGO. It seems that Skateboard P and the Human Made General are picking things up right where they left off twenty years ago, this time with no complications.

The LV ButterSoft will launch as part of Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection later this year. Grab a first look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
