GALLERY DEPT. founder Josué Thomas will be showcasing his artwork during Miami Art Basel with a solo exhibition titled “Mental Energy.” To commemorate the show, Thomas has reunited with ASICS for a footwear collab consisting of three colorways of the GEL-K1011.
This collaboration marks the introduction of the GEL-K1011, a new silhouette that blends ASICS running heritage with modern day innovation. Its upper combines elements from different shoes from the GEL-KAYANO line, namely the GEL-KAYANO 5, GEL-KAYANO 6, and GEL-KAYANO 10, while underfoot is a midsole originally seen on the GEL-Cumulus 17.
The first colorway, dressed in White/Silver, pays homage to classic ASICS Sportstyle aesthetic with retro influences throughout.The second colorway comes in an outdoorsy Khaki/Clay Canyon color scheme, inspired by trail running shoes with its various earth tones. Last but not least, the third colorway features an all-black base covered in all-over white paint applied by in-house artisans. This colorway is a nod to one of Josué’s favorite artists, blending minimalist design with artistic expression.
The non-painted pairs features “DEPT.” branding across the toe boxes in a stenciled design, a signature GALLERY DEPT. motif. Each pair also features GALLERY DEPT.’s signature yellow tag on the heel.
The GALLERY DEPT. x ASICS GEL-K1011 collection will be available via EQL raffle, with entries accepted starting December 7th at 11am CST. Pairs will also be available at GALLERY DEPT. stores in Miami and Los Angeles on December 6th, followed by a release at global retailers on December 12th.
