“i want to work with vans this year.” reads a 2017 tweet from Zac Clark, founder of FTP, the Los Angeles-based streetwear brand “born out of a desire to rebel, think freely, and unapologetically be yourself.” The timing wasn’t right then, but Zac never gave up. Eight years later, the first official FTP x OTW By Vans collection is here, featuring premium executions of the Authentic 44 and Old Skool 36.
The FTP x Vans collection is packed to the hilt with repeat prints, checkerboards, crystal rubber outsoles, and luxe on-black details, emphasizing the bold, defiant spirit of both brands. The Authentic 44 opts for a black/white look with suede and cotton canvas construction, featuring FTP repeat print on the sidewalls and a leather footbed embossed with co-branded OTW and FTP logos. Meanwhile, the Old Skool 36 features suede and premium leather uppers in all-black, paired with black semi translucent foxing tape. A reflective sidestripe and additional reflective details on the tongue and heel counter create a dynamic look for the murdered out colorway.
“I grew up in the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles with my mom. Anytime she was looking for school shoes that worked for me, it was always Vans,” says Zac Clark. “Since starting FTP back in 2010 during high school, I’ve always dreamed of doing a collaboration with them. This project really feels like a full circle moment — a dream come true. I just wish Keith Hufnagel, my mentor, was here to see it. He was one of the first people to believe in me and help open doors in the industry. I hope my journey shows that if you believe in yourself and keep going, you really can do anything.”
The accompanying visuals, directed and photographed by James Pereira, depicts a Brink’s truck robbery in downtown LA, starring Travis Barker as the ringleader.
