Originated by football (soccer) fans in the UK in the 1970s, terrace culture has had street fashion in a chokehold in recent years. Just look at how many Sambas you spot in your daily commute. The trend is not stopping anytime soon, especially since two of terrace fashion’s biggest players have just teamed up for a massive collab.
Italian label C.P. Company has reunited with adidas Spezial, the Three Stripes’ archive-inspired sub-label founded by Gary Aspden, known for its stellar footwear releases steeped in football heritage. This collaboration comes in celebration of adidas Spezial’s 10th anniversary, following their last team up in 2021 for the 50th anniversary of C.P. Company.
The collection features apparel and six different footwear styles, with one of the highlights being the CP Manchester SPZL, an updated version of the OG Manchester designed by Aspden that first released in 2002. The shoe features its original blue and red color scheme, paying homage to Manchester’s two football clubs, though it is now updated with premium materials to match up with C.P. Company’s exceptional quality standards.
The footwear offering also includes a new colorway of the Italia SPZL, a follow-up to the duo’s 2021 iteration dressed in the colors of the Italian flag. This time, the shoe comes in adidas’ signature blue to commemorate the 10th anniversary of adidas Spezial. We also see two colorways of the CP Wimberly SPZL, a new silhouette based on a rare perforated version of the adidas Universal from the ’80s. Rounding out the selection is the CP SL83 SPZL — a new hybrid with design DNA of early SL releases — and the CP Helvellyn SPZL, inspired by an ’80s high-top outdoor shoe called the adidas Nepal.
Known for its functional, military-inspired outerwear, C.P. Company has produced a puffer jacket and flying jacket for this collaboration, each with detachable branding options so you can choose between a clean aesthetic or a logo pop. The apparel offering also includes a half zip sweatshirt, track top and pants, polo, and tees. Our personal favorite piece, however, is the graphic sweatshirt, featuring the C.P. Company sailor dressed in Spezial gear.
Rounding out the collection are a few accessories: a corduroy hat equipped with ear flaps, a nylon twill cap with a bungee fit adjuster, premium leather gloves with warm fleece lining, and a dual compartment crossbody bag.
To celebrate the launch, C.P. Company and adidas have launched a campaign featuring an ensemble cast of long-time friends: Ashley Walters, Stephen Graham, Goldie, Robert Brooks, and Toby Mclellan.
