Balenciaga unveiled a new basketball-inspired sneaker silhouette at Paris Fashion Week as part of its Summer 2025 collection.
Fresh off the runway of Demna’s latest fashion show, the aptly named “Basketball Sneaker” by Balenciaga features a molded upper with exaggerated shape and proportions, drawing comparisons to Nike’s Foamposite and Flightposite styles from the late ’90s. The shoe even makes it debut in various metallic colorways, paying homage to iconic Foam colorways such as the “Copper” and “Metallic Red.” There is also a white colorway with prominent scuffing at the toe for a worn-in look.
Coincidentally, the Nike shoes that Balenciaga are referencing with their new Basketball Sneaker are currently being reintroduced to the market. Various Foamposite One colorways are on Nike’s release calendar for 2024 and 2025, and the Flightposite is set to make its return this holiday season. Nike even brought back the Clogposite, a clog spinoff from the early 2000s featuring the same molded polyurethane construction.
The Balenciaga Summer 2025 Basketball Sneaker is now available for pre-order, ahead of the official launch in Summer 2025. Shop the launch on the Balenciaga website, at Balenciaga stores, and at select retailers such as SSENSE.
