Original Story (05/17/25): 2025 has been a year of unexpected grails returning to the market, as Jordan Brand is pulling out all the stops for the 40th anniversary of Air Jordan. Following a retro release of the ultra-rare UNDEFEATED AJ4 this summer, we are now expecting the Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo” to get the same treatment later this year.
The Air Jordan 5 Retro T23 “Tokyo” originally released in 2011 exclusively in Japan to mark the opening of the Jordan Tokyo 23 store in Shibuya and the Tokyo 23 basketball tournament. Composed of a yellow suede upper, the shoe features a stylized “23” formed in the negative space of an embroidered Kanji-style character, a nod to both Michael Jordan’s jersey number and Tokyo’s 23 special wards.
According to zSneakerHeadz, this colorway is now set to drop again in 2025, possibly releasing in two versions. The UNDEFEATED AJ4 is also expected to drop in two versions, one with the OG Jumpman on the heel and the other with Nike Air, so it’s possible the Tokyos will see a similar rollout.
The Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo” is slated to drop Fall 2025, possibly on SNKRS and at select retailers. Grab a look at the 2011 edition below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for first looks and additional updates.
Update (05/19/25): The 2025 Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo” has leaked. The main difference between this new version and the OG is the yellow tip on the outsole. These are slated to drop September 27th and are reportedly limited to 20,000 pairs. Stay tuned for more.
