adidas has announced the launch of a new collection called A-TYPE, featuring elevated and artisanal reworkings of iconic pieces from the brand’s extensive archive.
Signature looks from throughout adidas’ history have been reimagined with premium fabrications, assembled by expert ateliers. The first A-TYPE drop features an upscale $850 version of the classic Superstar. Drawing inspiration from an original Superstar prototype from 1970, the A-TYPE Superstar is handmade in Italy, crafted with premium leather with a debossed canvas texture on the leather Three Stripes. The shoes come equipped with cashmere shoelaces with detachable lace tips and silver plated lace jewelry, while the Lightstrike Pro cushioning in the midsole brings modern technology to the ’70s classic. Each pair comes in a in a molded shoe box accompanied by wooden shoe trees and white gloves, reminiscent of those given to guests at adidas’ archive in Herzogenaurach.
The debut A-TYPE collection also features the iconic Firebird tracksuit, a street style staple that was originally designed for track athletes in the 1980s. The Firebird Track Top, Track Pants, and Track Shorts have all been elevated with the finest leathers and hand crafted details. A-TYPE also introduces two cashmere blended regular fit t-shirts for sophisticated everyday-wear.
The footwear and apparel is joined by a remastered version of adidas’ signature Airliner bag, first used by athletes to carry their shoes in the 1970s. Expertly crafted in Italy in two iterations — the A-TYPE Airliner Large and the A-TYPE Airliner Small — the bags features supple leather constructions, a detachable belt, cotton lining, and premium hardware.
Rounding out the inaugural A-TYPE collection is a selection of jewelry, comprised of sterling silver pendant necklaces, rings, and earrings, each placing the adidas Originals Trefoil logo front and center.
A-TYPE is presented alongside a lookbook shot by Gabriel Moses and styled by Matthew Henson, starring pioneering figures that bridge the worlds of sport, fashion, entertainment, and music: Pusha T, Paloma Elsesser, Tyshawn Jones, Fiffany Luu, DJ Hank Korsan, and Selena Forrest.
