adidas has released a new collection to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the German Football Association, aka the DFB (Deutscher Fußball-Bund).
The DFB, founded in 1900, has a rich history of success over the years with six World Cups and eleven European trophies between the men’s and women’s national teams. adidas has been a part of this history for over 70 years, as the German sportswear brand has been sponsoring the German national football team since the 1950s. With this sponsorship coming to an end in favor of a new DFB x Nike partnership in 2027, this 125th anniversary collection serves as a swan song to one of the longest-running kit partnerships in professional sport.
The collection includes a special edition jersey, inspired by the kit worn by the German squad captained by Franz Beckenbauer that won the 1974 World Cup. The off-white jersey with black trim features a retro reworking of the first-ever DFB logo on the left chest, with the German eagle subtly debossed around it. A German flag detail can also be found on the inside of the collar. Germany debuted the special edition jersey on-field in a National League matchup against Italy on March 20th.
The jersey is accompanied by an off-field apparel collection. It includes a half-zip with an all-black design and knitted texture, as well as a hoodie and t-shirt in all white. The adidas Samba “Germany” rounds out the collection, featuring off-white mesh uppers and suede overlays, matching the construction of recently launched Mexico Sambas. They are finished with the signature Three Stripes in leather, “Deutschland” stamped in gold on the side panels, DFB logos on the tongues, and yellowed rubber soles.
